BBC Editor of Readings, Di Speirs, hosts a discussion on modern modes of experiencing short fiction – with readings from Joe Dunthorne, Geoff Dyer and Tessa Hadley.

Joe Dunthorne reads his short story ‘Critical Responses to my Last Relationship’, which was shortlisted for the 2010 Sunday Times EFG Short Story Award. Dunthorne’s debut novel, Submarine, was made into a film in 2011. His short stories, poetry and journalism have appeared in the Guardian, the Independent, the Sunday Times and Vice.

Geoff Dyer reads from his short story ‘White Sands’, first published in Granta 91: Wish You Were Here. Dyer writes short stories that are often referred to as travel essays, and his non-fiction works have led to numerous awards – including the 2011 National Book Critics Award for Criticism, for his collection of essays and reviews, Otherwise Known as the Human Condition. He is the author of four novels, two collections of essays and five genre-defying titles. Dyer was made a Fellow of the Royal Society of Literature in 2005.

Tessa Hadley‘s story ‘Post Production’ was first published in Ploughshares Spring 2011. Her stories regularly appear in The New Yorker, the Guardian and Granta, while her debut short story collection, Sunstroke, was short-listed for The Story Award in the U.S. Hadley teaches on the MA in Creative Writing at Bath Spa University. Her second collection of short stories, Married Love, was published in early 2012.
