In the final instalment of this series of Short Story Masterclass podcasts, Jac Cattaneo talks with award winning author Colin Barrett about the things you leave out of a short story, fictionalised settings, articulating feelings, humour, and finding the ending of a story.


AUTHOR_Colin-BarrettColin Barrett was born in 1982 and grew up in County Mayo, Ireland. In 2014, Barrett’s debut collection of short stories, Young Skins, won the prestigious Frank O’Connor International Short Story Award, the Rooney Prize for Irish Literature, and the Guardian First Book Award. Barrett’s stories have been published in The Stinging Fly magazine and in the anthologies Sharp Sticks, Driven Nails and Town and Country.

In the podcast, Colin Barrett reads from ‘The Clancy Kid’ and ‘Calm with Horses’.
