The Crème de la Crème

by Adam Williams

The Crème de la Crème

with Ali Smith

~ ~ ~

Recorded at the 2011 Small Wonder Festival
at Charleston House, East Sussex.

Ali Smith’s first collection of short stories, Free Love and Other Stories, won the Saltire First Book Award in 1995. Since then she has published three further collections and four novels, and has won numerous awards for her work, including the Scottish Arts Council Book of the Year Award and the Whitbread Novel Award. Smith is known for combining striking ideas and observations with a tongue-in-cheek style, encouraging playful thoughtfulness in her readers.

In this recording, Smith reads two short stories by Muriel Spark, and shares her passionate engagement with Spark’s work. The discussion is followed by a Q&A session between Smith and the audience.
